Life's a Beach

The Toothbrush

As I picked up my toothbrush a couple weeks ago the sight of it made me stop and think. What a good metaphor those two toothbrushes were for relationships.

It’s easy to sit and catalog the faults of your partner in times of stress. When you are together nonstop to critique every move.

Maybe even facing opposite directions and ready to travel alone. Bringing to light every annoyance on top of a highly emotionally, maybe even financially stressful moment in life.

Quarantine can bring out the good, the bad and the ugly. If you are reading social media and hearing all the heartwarming and sweet posts about spouses, partners, kids etc just know it’s okay if it’s not rainbows and sunshine all the time in your house.

Doesn’t mean the relationship is doomed, it means it is an incredibly hard time for a lot of people and it’s normal for those stressors to affect the people closest to us. Quarantine can bring us closer but also can be a test.

I think social media can be amazing, but it can also put a false image in your mind that things have to be perfect all the time. We also have constant access to negative events and news. It’s in our faces day in and day out, reminding us of doom and gloom. Who wouldn’t want to pull their hair out.
The goal is to keep the negative in the news and out of the home as much as possible.

There is no perfect life, perfect relationship, perfect kids. Take a breather. Take a walk. Make some cupcakes. Laugh a little. Try to refocus on the positive, make time for a home date night, take a drive, give each other a little space sometimes.

Growth is inevitable right now. You either grow together or you grow apart. Focus on keeping yourself and each other healthy, mentally and physically.

So true. We all need to take a deep breath. Take a moment to control the things you can, and let go of the things you can’t! It’s okay to not be okay! Take this time to regroup and reform!

Hello Lovelies!

Woman standing in outdoor parking garage with smoke around her face

Hi! I’m just a woman who is still trying to figure out this thing called life, but you can call me Nikki. A mom, travel enthusiast, Starbucks addict who is never lacking for clumsy stories. But pineapples make me happy and palm trees swaying in the salty, ocean air ease my restless soul. Read more about me here.
