Mother’s Day hike on Estatoe Trail

It’s this happy accident that Mother’s Day falls in a beautiful time of year in Western North Carolina.

Aside from feeling like the pollen is out to get you, it really is a beautiful sight with all the spring blooms and gorgeous weather.

Perfect visuals for a Mother’s Day walk/hike. Which is exactly what we did this year.

If you ever find yourself in the town of Brevard, you will understand that it’s a hikers dream. Honestly, you could stay anywhere in a 50 mile radius and be surrounded by some amazing outdoor adventures. Anything from an easy riverside stroll to a strenuous hike lasting hours. You really have your pick.

When we left out on Mother’s Day, the goal was for a peaceful walk with the sounds of the river rushing by and I knew the perfect spot.

If you park at Lowe’s in Brevard, you will find the Estatoe trail right across the street.

This level trail follows the Davidson River and connects the City Greenway with Art Loeb trail.

You’ll find this trail is relaxing and makes for a nice morning or evening stroll. Mostly gravel with some bridge structures over wet areas to keep shoes dry and clean. My kids love that there are several areas to stop and sit by the river. Whether that’s to enjoy the sounds of the water OR jump in and cool off.

It’s an estimated 2.3 mile hike and can be heavily trafficked with hikers, runners and mountain bikers.

One of my favorite parts, aside from the river, is the large cliff side you pass. There’s something about it that reminds me of the age and history of my home as well as my tiny size by comparison.

And no journey can be complete without a trip by Dollys on your way home! You can catch glimpses through the trees at the entrance of the trail, but hop in your car and scoot across the road for some ice cream. This dairy bar has been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember. Lots of creative flavors and so many memories!

Hello Lovelies!

Woman standing in outdoor parking garage with smoke around her face

Hi! I’m just a woman who is still trying to figure out this thing called life, but you can call me Nikki. A mom, travel enthusiast, Starbucks addict who is never lacking for clumsy stories. But pineapples make me happy and palm trees swaying in the salty, ocean air ease my restless soul. Read more about me here.
