I feel like the world is a little on edge after a year of the pandemic. Everyone is in need of some time to relax and recharge after all we’ve been through. So how do we stay sane when we don’t feel safe enough to vacation? Or what about when the norm comes back around and we don’t have the time or finances to travel? We staycation, of course!
- Turn your home into a relaxing resort experience
That’s right. Think luxury getaway in your own backyard. Or condo balcony. Whatever you’ve got, let’s get creative. If you’ve got a patio set, make it comfortable. Turn the Bluetooth speaker to your favorite vacation mode playlist, grab your favorite drink to serve, set up some lights. And boom.. we’re in business. Or string lights on your condo balcony, throw some plush outdoor pillows on the ground and imagine you are in an oasis. Think about the perfect evening at a lux resort and make it fit your space.
2. Explore a national park
This one is a little easier for me since I am surrounded by state and national parks within driving distance. If you can easily get to one, try going to explore. Don’t have one close by? Find a local park. Get in nature and unplug from all the negativity and noise around you. Go on a hike or trail and see how quickly your mood can shift and you’ll come out feeling like you’ve not only connected with nature, but with yourself also.
3. Pick a theme night
This one can be really fun and is only limited by your imagination. Try Italy and make your favorite pasta, (or takeout if you want to really keep it simple) drink wine, eat tiramisu or cannoli for dessert. Looking for more tropical feel? Go for Hawaiian theme with fruity cocktails, dress in your most tacky beach tourist garb and dance in your living room under dollar store pineapple lights. Really… the world is your oyster. Pick a theme and play it up.
4. Spa Day
This one seems pretty obvious, but can’t be left off the list. This one can work wonders on your mental health and relaxation. Everything from the paraffin wax (order online or from Sallys) that we just can’t live without during our pedicures, blow out your own hair, steam or mask your face, aromatherapy bubble bath. All while you’ve got that nice scented candle burning or diffusing your favorite essential oils. You can buy so many supplies like a foot bath or gel nail polish kits that you really could go all out and not miss any of the spa like experiences.
5. Order from restaurants you’ve never tried before
This benefits everyone. Restaurants took a huge hit during the pandemic and what better way to support local businesses than to include them in your staycation. Maybe there’s a tapas bar you’ve been wanting to try or family owned café. You could even do a “food tour” in your own town or city. Order food from all the places you say you will try, but inevitably life gets in the way. Go eat picnic style at a park or take it all back home to that oasis you created in tip 1!
I know life can be stressful and vacations aren’t always convenient when you need a break. So try 1 or all of these tips above and see if you can lighten the load you’ve been carrying!
Until next time, lovelies 💜
